If you’ve ever stayed in a guest room that made you feel pampered, you know exactly how magical that experience can be. Top 5 Guest Room Must-Haves for That Luxe, Loved Feel

1. Ultra-Soft Bedding That Says “Stay Awhile”

What’s the very first thing your guests will notice (and silently judge)? The bed. A guest bed that feels cloud-soft and looks well-styled can completely elevate the room. You don’t need a designer set or five-star hotel budget—what matters most is layering.

Think buttery-soft sheets (like those hotel-quality ones you never want to get out of), a fluffy but breathable comforter, and an extra quilt or throw at the foot of the bed. Neutral tones with a little texture—like waffle weave or matelassé—look expensive without trying too hard.

Pro Tip: Include four pillows: two plush and two more structured. Guests can customize their comfort, and it instantly feels more intentional.

2. A Spa-Like Towel and Toiletry Setup

You know what screams “I thought about you”? Fluffy white towels neatly folded at the foot of the bed or in a visible basket. Add a washcloth and hand towel for the full suite experience, and suddenly you’re not just a host—you’re a hospitality icon.

Even better? Offer a small tray or basket of toiletries. Think travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and a few extras like a razor or toothbrush. Not only is it thoughtful, but it saves your guests from that awkward “Hey, do you have toothpaste?” moment.

Styling Tip: Stack towels with a sprig of eucalyptus or lavender on top. It looks magazine-worthy but takes less than 30 seconds. For the toiletries, go for cohesive packaging and muted tones to keep the luxe vibe going.

🛍 Want to make your setup effortlessly spa-worthy? Here are my picks below!

  • I have this Basket

    • I believe everyone could use an extra basket now and then. I really think they come in handy when you're setting up for guests.

3. A Fragrance Moment (Without Overdoing It)

Scent is the invisible thread that weaves the entire guest experience together. It’s one of the most powerful ways to make your guest space feel elevated, calm, and curated.

A softly scented candle, reed diffuser, or essential oil plug-in can instantly set the mood. The trick? Keep it subtle. Think linen, sandalwood, sea salt, or vanilla. Skip anything too floral or overwhelming.

Pro Move: Add a candle and lighter to the nightstand, and let your guest decide if they want to light it. Bonus: It adds a little ambiance and sophistication to the space.

🛍 Looking for a light, fresh scent that instantly upgrades your space?

  • Sweet Water Decor Candles (My favorite candle ever!!)

    • While scents are a must-have for me, my guests don't always love the same scents. I love these because they are affordable and you can pick different scents. Giving them the lighter and a candle with the lid is a must. You don't want to give them a headache when they walk into the room that they are supposed to stay in all night.

4. A Nightstand Setup That Anticipates Their Needs

I'm the guest that is terrified to ask for water, what the dinner plans are, etc. Though you may think you've made your home as welcoming as possible, this is always in the back of my mind when having guests. You don’t need to go full minibar mode, but a well-thought-out nightstand setup is pure guest-room gold. A small water carafe or bottle, a phone charger, a notepad and pen, and a little welcome note (even just a sticky note saying, “So glad you’re here!”) makes your guest feel considered.

Add a bedside lamp with a soft, warm glow and—if you want to go all out—a mini sound machine or sleep mask. Little luxuries like these show off your inner host superstar.

Aesthetic Touch: Stack a couple of cute coffee table books or a glossy magazine on the nightstand for that boutique feel.

  • Portable Charger

    • I've purchased one for my husbands & I, one for my mother, and one for my brother. I love these!! They plug directly into the wall & have many different cables. In our family, we are a mix of iPhone and Android users. This portable charger is an essential item in my family.

  • Lip Moisturizer

    • I'm also the person who needs moisturized lips to fall asleep comfortably. Aquaphor is my go-to. I've used it since I was a kid. If I were to stay at someone's home, I'd bring this size.

  • Grab a couple liters of water & other drinks and put one per guest in the basket we were talking about before. Place the others in another area of the guest room to not make the basket too busy. Obviously, gauge how many you'd need. You don't want to buy a 24 pack of water if they're only staying over the weekend. If it is a weekend stay, I would say a couple liters per guest. My husband prefers to drink about a gallon a day. Now, we don't expect anything from anyone when it comes to staying at their home, however, if our flight lands late at night or at a time where stores are closed, it is nice to have some water waiting for us. It really depends on your guest & what you're willing to do.

  • Put a good mix of healthy & nonhealthy snacks in your setup. You never really know what they're going to be craving, so a good mix of both tends to do well.

5. Cozy Extras That Say “You’re Home”

These are the details that go the extra mile. A luxe-feeling robe hanging on the back of the door, a pair of cozy socks or slippers tucked in a basket, or even a mini snack station with granola bars and a bottle of water like I mentioned previously.

I'm also the type of guest that never asks for the Wi-Fi password. I'm very shy & reserved, if you can't already tell. A small, framed sign with the Wi-Fi password is always a crowd-pleaser, as is a mirror (especially if your guest room doesn’t have its own bathroom). These cozy extras create a feeling of ease—like everything they might need is already thought of, and they’re free to just be.

🛍 Want to build out your own cozy guest kit? Browse my guest-favorite extras below—they’re small touches with a big impact.

  • Wi-Fi Sign

    • Again, I'm not the person to ask for the Wi-Fi information, so I make sure to do it for every guest, no matter how open they are to asking. You also don't have to buy a sign; you could put it on the paper you put your welcome message on or even an empty picture frame with a dry erase marker. Once your guests leave, you can erase the information & put your picture back in the frame.

  • Fan

    • I actually have this fan on me right now haha!!! I know it sounds very extra, but I cannot sleep without noise or circulating air. I get so uncomfortable and get kinda grumpy (not grumpy toward anyone, just annoyed in the moment that I can't sleep). I bought this fan years ago and it is still going strong. The fact you can put it on a table gives your guests the option to put it close to them or farther away. Honest opinion from personal experience: 13/10

🏡 Conclusion: Small Touches, Big Impact

You don’t need a renovation or a massive budget to create a welcoming, luxurious guest room.
